Father’s Day for a Gamer Dad
By DarthVicious82 | June 16, 2008
So today is Father’s Day in the US and being the father of a 20 month-old girl I was able to take advantage of the holiday. Typically Father’s Day is a gift-giving holiday in the US. Well to be perfectly honest MOST holidays are gift-giving holidays here. When asked by my wife what I would like for Father’s Day I had only one reply, “Time to play video games.”
Being a husband, father, homeowner and professional computer geek tends to take most, if not all, of my time. I look forward to the hour here and there to pop in GTA IV and play through more of the story. That’s why time to enjoy my hobby is more valuable to me than MOST gifts
I started the day off slow by sleeping in late. There would be plenty of time to dig into my game collection. I played with my daughter for a couple of hours until her nap. Then it was time to begin the gaming onslaught.
First stop, Liberty City. I’ve had this game for about 3 weeks now and I’m only halfway through the story. Today I was out to make a dent. Without spoiling anything, today I flew a chopper in a chase through downtown Algonquin, read a phone number through a sniper scope, and unlocked the final island. Time for a break
After a lunch break and some time with the family it was time to retire to my gaming den once more. I’ve been playing GTA IV exclusively since I got it. It’s a truly remarkable game and a certified portal through which you can lose time and sleep. Time to change things up. I picked up Overlord about a week ago when I saw it on sale at Circuit City. A 360 game with decent reviews for only $15…I was sold.
Today I broke the seal of Overlord and dove in head first. I’m sure that I’ll be talking more about this game later so I won’t go into much detail, but so far it’s been a blast. It is a truly unique experience on the 360, playing much like Pikmin did for the Gamecube but with rude, comedic, and demonic minions replacing the Pikmin. I’m glad I picked this one up as I don’t have anything like it in my current collection and it’s enjoyable thus far.
Now I sit in my recliner watching the Boston Celtics play the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. A day free to play games, watch sports and ignore all of my responsibilities. Today was a good day.

I’ll snap a few shots this evening and post them to the Forum. I’m proud of my man cave…just need to get a surround sound sorted out.

if you want to get great sound at a super cheap price i recommend the turtle beach ear force x1 headset
it has stereo game sound and voice chat all in your headset and damn these things will make you go deaf if you dont turn the volume down on them
they go for 59.99 in stores here in the states but i ordered mine from buy.com for 44.99 and i love these things
