Who says you can’t go home again?

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

After a year without Xbox live, I signed into the service last night. Having spent the last few months with the PS3, I’d all but forgotten the impact of Xbox Live on both the individual user and the industry as a whole. How then, after a prolonged experience with PSN, does a return to Xbox […]

New fatalities and old friends

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

Forgive the hint of self-pity in this little post, but yesterday afternoon I went out to town to look for random gaming tat, came home with a copy of Edge and Shenmue II for the Xbox, burnt a manual update to a CD and installed it, and upon firing up the 360 to play the […]

Father’s Day for a Gamer Dad

Monday, June 16th, 2008

So today is Father’s Day in the US and being the father of a 20 month-old girl I was able to take advantage of the holiday. Typically Father’s Day is a gift-giving holiday in the US. Well to be perfectly honest MOST holidays are gift-giving holidays here. When asked by my wife what I would like for Father’s Day I had only one reply, “Time to play video games.”

Aces of the Galaxy

Monday, June 9th, 2008

If there’s one thing I had learnt from the days of doggedly trying to finish the last of Panzer Dragoon Orta’s missions - and months of neglect because of a certain sticking point that I was too rubbish to pass the first time - it’s that on-rails shoot ‘em ups are far from the simple, […]

Dreaming The Bioshock Dream

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

I am a huge fan of games that are fairly simple and just do what they set out to do and do it well. Recently I played Dark Sector and Viking: Battle for Asgard and I really had a good time with both; to me they were really solid examples of the type of […]

My game playing buddy

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

A while back I was playing some late night CoD4 and Mrs. Dreago (or should that be Doña Dreago?) came down to see what I was up to. She proceeded to to set up the following scene, and after giggling at it for a couple of minutes, took a snap on my phone, which […]

First impressions: Mass Effect

Monday, April 21st, 2008

Captain Anderson: Ah Shepard. How’ve you been? Ever since they retired me on a whim to suit the plot, I’ve been stood here in the Diplomat’s office without even sitting down. My legs have seized up and I’m not even kidding.
Shepard: I’m well, sir. I’ve been working on a mission thread to save the name […]

The Club (360 Review)

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

Right, this will be one of the shortest reviews I’ve ever written. This is a game that needs few words to talk about it.

The Club is at its heart, an arcade game. Not a third person shooter. Not an online multiplayer game. It’s an arcade game dressed in a fancy suit- the cover makes […]

Who is that mysterious knife guy!?

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

I play a fair amount of CoD4 on Xbox Live. I suck monkey balls at it, usually being the guy in 4th on your team with 92 points, and a -1 kill spread in team deathmatch, but I’m not one to let a lack of talent stop me (see: me playing football, me writing […]

PES fanboy disgusts himself

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Same old story. You find a new podcast that you quite like, and at the end they ask if anyone fancies a spot of blogging. “Ooh! I could have a go at that!” you think, and quickly chuck out an email volunteering yourself before you have a thought what you could possible […]
