Great read, and it’s a good point. It’s interesting how the first two PlayStations arguably eased the general brand into the subconscious of a community of previous nongamers, whilst 360’s Live service has had a similar impact in a very different crowd, one in which MS - with it’s previous online experience - has an advantage.

I was thinking about a PS2 for the TV in my bedroom. Handy for the evenings where the “big TV” was being used for X-Factor or something and my PS3’s remote play titles didn’t appeal so much.

I’ve yet to listen past one minute in and I have one thought already. Both Uzi and Xib talking while the intro tune was fading out led me the conclusion that you just need to play that tune throughout the entire podcast, as frankly that tune makes anyone who speaks while it plays at least 60% more of a pimp.

I shall guide you through my thought process:

“You know, these two are often wrong, and I find myself wondering why I spend time listening to such utter buffoons as…hey, new intro…

…Who are these new, professional and knowledgable fellows who have usurped the dorkcast mantle? I would be shocked at this, yet I cannot help but support two such blatant pimp supremes.”

Thanks for the two shows today, watched both conferences live, Nintendo was a huge letdown but luckily sony pulled it back, plenty of games coming out over the next few months on all systems to keep me happy. My prediction is that no matter how good all the exclusives on the 360/ps3 are none will sell close to the 4/5 mini games that is wii sports beach resort.

Good lols in both shows, like a dorky Beavis and Butthead and times.

Good show, really funny, I had ordered an elite before the conference, bit gutted to see the mii bits and the dumbing down of certain parts of the system. The bit in the middle about the new dashboard/sceneit/in the movies should have been cut because the game lineup looks awesome and would have been good enough on its own.

A good article Kinketsu, I agree that MGS4 really limps across the finishing line as a shooter. Some part of me wants to think that Kojima and co know this and are planning on fixing it for a later game.

It seems the Japanese aren’t as adept at crafting shooters as your average Western dev house (or maybe just less interested in doing so) but I can provide one great exception:

Call me weird, but your talk of MGO has me interested in trying it out. I’m not really sure why either. I’ve never been much of a sniper myself. Maybe it’s the fact that the game’s non-western. I might enjoy the change in albeit bad design.

For me it’s my older brother who is obsessed with this game. He’s been playing it for three years now, although he’s starting to come out of it. What I always found funny was that he said he didn’t have much time for games in recent years, but he was playing WOW for at least two hours a night. It seems once it’s got it’s hooks in far enough, WOW doesn’t count as a game!

My little brother was horribly addicted to WoW for a while there. He would ramble on with in-game stories almost as often as I did with GTA IV. He finally reached a high enough level that further progression would require more time than he was willing to devote. Then came Age of Conan. It has started all over again. Except I’m hearing stories of bare virtual breasts and gory finishing animations instead of mounts and raids. Luckily I don’t have enough free time to get hooked by the social aspect of MMOs.

Pokemon Snap meets Call of Duty 4? I think we’re onto something here. It would also be a better way to examine the morality of modern warfare, as you’d be a neutral observer. They could portray the hypocrisy of both warring factions of the warfare, without making you feel bad for being affiliated to either of them. Levels could be set in villages before and then after the warfare, so you can document how it has effected the innocent people living there. This is a really interesting idea I think!

I suppose my point is that a ‘realistic’ fantasy figure can be more attractive than a sexdoll type.

You’re touching on my point when you mention Holly Valance, she’s as much a human fantasy figure (for some) as you can get, and still she doesn’t come anywhere close to the DoA character she’s portraying in terms of garish oversexualisation.

I doubt Lolo could fit in the Caribbean, nevermind a boat. I’m not much of Keira fan either, never really understood why people got so excited over her.

I personally don’t mind the caricatures. It’s harmless and somewhat fanciful indulgence. If you were looking for realism then in these days you’d be looking for fake tan, unkempt facial hair, stretch marks, unbleached roots and a pram full of shoplifter’s booty.

It’s all in the eye of the beholder and with a good side-order of tongue in cheek. Even the people you mention like Holly Vallance, once draped over the pages of a magazine, are as far-removed from realism as their pixellated counterparts.

As a side note, Lolo Ferrari wold not have fitted in any of the Pirates movies, Keira Knightley sure could use some tits and I heart NG’s Rachel with a love that would split the world into 3 parts if I were to even start describing.

And now I want to shake a Sixaxxis at a local council MILF, providing someone can babysit all of her 9 kids.

That’s an awesome feature that I hadn’t heard about until now. I can definitely see how a feature like this could extend the life of the game far beyond the narrative. I wish GTA IV had this with the camera phone…or even better yet…a video phone. Maybe GTA V? In the meantime this feature makes me want to play this one even more.

if you want to get great sound at a super cheap price i recommend the turtle beach ear force x1 headset

it has stereo game sound and voice chat all in your headset and damn these things will make you go deaf if you dont turn the volume down on them

they go for 59.99 in stores here in the states but i ordered mine from buy.com for 44.99 and i love these things

My brother is a little like that… jealousy mixed with a fear of anything new. He’s a big Wow player, and you should have seen his face when I played Age of Conan! He also thought Bioshock was ‘boring’ though he’s probably spent more time playing Wow than sleeping in the past year!

After playing Call of Duty 4 for literally a minute on my PC, he blamed his poor performance on my rather gorgeous 24″ dell monitor, which was “crap because you couldn’t see anything” and my nice trusty logitech mouse was “crap because it had buttons on the side”. I’m sure he’ll change his tune when I go to upgrade, he’ll be begging like a dog for my castoffs as usual!

Envy is indeed the ugliest of the sins in my book.

Well, according to the unnamed retailer it’s definitely going to take around three weeks to send me the PS3 I should have gotten today. I’ve decided to cancel this and order a PS3 from another site. Doesn’t seem fair at all. They screwed up, not me, they’ve even admitted it and told me they’ll send me the bundle discount (£40ish) once I receive the PS3. But I’m not willing to wait three weeks! Sucks to be me.

Perhaps you could talk about your all-time most anticipated games on a future podcast? General opinion in these parts seems to be GTA4, San Andreas or Halo 3. I remember other games I wanted more in the past though. Maybe I’ve just relaxed in my old age?

The one week I decide to indulge myself in my new MMO and listen to it on podcast at work the next week, you do a live phonein that flops because nobody would phone in.
